NASA has released a job ad for a Planetary Protection Officer. The main responsibility is yes, you guess it: protect the Earth from aliens. And one boy believes he is up to the task.
The job is essentially, to protect planet Earth from any potential extra terrestrial life (if there is any to worry about). The job also entails ensuring that humans who are exploring in space do not damage the many other planets in our universe.
Also, “frequent travel” is required, which makes sense if you are going to be working in a space shuttle. As for salary, the successful applicant will be looking at earning a whopping $187,000 including benefits.
As soon as he saw the announcement on their website, young space fan Jack got out his pen and paper and wrote his own personal job application. After sending his cover letter to NASA, his application was shared on social media and became an instant hit.
Jack applied for the role believing that he would essentially be working as a guardian of the galaxy, like his heroes from the Marvel movie. His dreams make sure that aliens don’t invade planet Earth.
And at nine years of age, Jack didn’t think that his age should hinder his chances of employment.
“I may be nine, but I think I would be fit for the job,” he wrote in his letter. “One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see.
“I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men In Black. I am great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an alien.”
But unfortunately, Jack doesn’t fulfill all the criteria for the role as he lacks some of the essential experience and qualifications required for the job. NASA expects applicants to have at least one year worth of experience in the field related to the job spec.
