Groom Saves Boy From Drowning On His Wedding Day

Clayton Cook was preparing for the biggest day of his life. He was in the middle of taking wedding photos with his bride to be Brittany when he suddenly took off running.

A confused Brittany looked on, expecting this to be some sort of prank, as he jumped off a park bridge and into the water below. It was their wedding day, but Clayton had something more important to do at that moment – save a young boy from drowning.

Brittany and Clayton, from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, said that during their photo session, three young children followed them around enamored with their wedding poses and pictures.

Clayton said, “For several minutes these kids were following us, and I was just keeping an eye on them because they were standing close to the water. Then, while Brittany was getting her solo shots taken, I realized only two were standing on the rock ledge.”

With one of the kids nowhere in sight, Clayton sprung into action. He eventually could see one of the boys barely able to keep his head above water and jumped in after him. He immediately shouted, “Grab my hand. Grab my hand!”

Darren Hatt, their wedding photographer, took the opportunity to capture Clayton in the middle of his superhero moment. Since sharing the photo, it has been shared about 2,000 times. Hatt said that by the time he turned around to see what Clayton had done, he had already pulled the boy out of the water and felt it was necessary to keep snapping the incredible moment.

Brittany, although confused at the moment, said that she was not surprised by Clayton’s selflessness and that it is one of the reasons that she fell in love with him. She said, “In our wedding speeches, I did mention how he’d do anything for anybody before they even thought to ask him and how loyal he was. So, yeah, I guess I could say he’s [my hero].”
